Auto Body and Collision Technician

The Auto Body and Collision Technician makes body repairs to cars, trucks and other motor vehicles using traditional hand tools and a range of specialty body repair tools such as laser measuring equipment, computer diagnostic scanners, welders, blocks, hammers and more. These repairs are accomplished by inspecting and determining the repair work needed, developing appropriate methods for each job, and applying a broad knowledge of automotive construction and repair techniques.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supports management of shop in alignment with The Craftsman Way (TCW);

• Actively participates in daily production meetings;

• Reviews damage report and supports Repair Planner to build a comprehensive repair plan with no missed parts;

• Researches and reviews OEM repair information;

• Dismantles and inspects vehicles;

• Removes and replaces damaged panels and other vehicle parts using hand and power tools as per OEM specifications;

• Repairs or replaces interior components, such as seat frame assemblies, carpets and floorboard insulation, dashboards, consoles interior trim & headliners;

• Repairs dents, buckles and other defects;

• Performs structural repairs;

• Operates steel, aluminum and plastic tools to repair/replace damaged body components;

• Conducts 3-dimensional measuring of vehicles according to company policy;

• Performs safe, proper repairs to meet Craftsman quality standards and reduce/eliminate rework and warranty claims;

• Documents repairs through measurements and photos;

• Reassembles vehicles;

• Inspects and test drives repaired vehicles for proper handling and performance;

• Notifies the Shop Manager of missed damage, or any vehicles that will not meet the target delivery date;

• Maintains a clean and organized workspace;

• Maintains repair equipment and notifies manager of any urgent maintenance needed;

• Works with the Shop Manager to ensure that operations are compliant with all provincial and national regulatory standards pertaining to health and safety, quality and employment standards;

• Ensures compliance with internal policies, procedures and guidelines to promote their consistent application within the Company;

• Supports company standards in SPARKLE, safety and security;

• Acts as a mentor for apprentices as needed;

• Provides leadership to ensure achievement of daily, weekly and monthly goals;

• Walks with purpose and demonstrates care about the whole vehicle and all stakeholders;

• Represents and promotes the Craftsman Collision brand in a positive manner aligned with stated values in all dealings internal and external; and

• Other duties as assigned.

• Red Seal certified or equivalent experience;
